The English Team to Start the European Championship 2028 Quest at City’s Home Ground

England’s men’s team will commence their UEFA Euro 2028 campaign at the the home of Manchester City, on the condition that they achieve the anticipated entry for a championship taking place in the bulk of Britain and the Ireland.

City’s stadium has not hosted an Three Lions game since May 2016, when the Turkish team were overcome 2-1 in a warm-up game, but is almost certain to welcome the Three Lions for their inaugural game on June 10, 2028.

The English side are planned to play their last two group stage games at Wembley, but, if they top the preliminary round, their round of 16 match would take place at St James’ Park. Securing the runner-up spot would mean starting the elimination stage at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Competition Kickoff and Rally

The event was unveiled at an event in central London on Wednesday evening. High-ranking officials from Uefa and the host football associations were confronted as they arrived the site by around fifty protesters, who demanded the Israeli team to be expelled from international football because of the situation in Gaza.

Banners were displayed with phrases stating “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while protesters chanted: “Kick Israel out.”

Championship Schedule

The inaugural fixture of Euro 2028 will be held at the Principality Stadium in the Welsh capital, on a Friday in June 2028, a fixture that will feature Wales if they secure a place.

Wembley Stadium will host the two semi-final matches and the title decider, which will be held on Sunday 9 July with a kick-off time at late afternoon.

It is expected that an earlier kick-off, which will also be implemented for Champions League finals from next season, will appeal to households and help engage a broader range of fans.

Qualifying Teams

The Irish team are set to play their initial fixture at the Dublin Arena and the Scottish team would follow suit at the national stadium of Scotland.

Each host nation’s squad will enter the preliminary stage; two reserved places will be set aside for any that miss out on the finals through the qualification path.

Venues and Elimination Phase

Villa Park and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium finalize the nine tournament locations. All will hold at least one knockout match, with the quarter-finals staged at every host’s main arena.

The qualifying draw will be held in Belfast, which was excluded as a venue city last year when it emerged the proposed venue could not be redeveloped in time, on December 6, 2026.

Tournament Vision

“The event will be a competition for the followers and a festival of everything we value about the football – its emotion and power to bring people together.”

In excess of three million tickets, a all-time high for a Euro tournament, are expected to be offered to supporters.
