People have assembled across the country to remember 24 months since the Hamas-conducted offensive on that fateful day in October 2023, as negotiations proceeded in the neighboring country over a resolution to the conflict in Gaza.

The attack saw in excess of 1,200 people killed and 251 others captured away to Gaza as prisoners. It was the most deadliest day for the Jewish community since the World War II.

Israel reacted by beginning a defensive operation in Gaza which has claimed more than 67,000 people, as reported by the area's Hamas-administered health ministry. Its figures are seen as accurate by the United Nations and other international bodies.

"Our violent adversaries have caused great damage, but they have not defeated us," Benjamin Netanyahu stated on that day.

He also promised to "achieve all the goals of the war: the homecoming of all the abducted, the elimination of the Hamas administration and the promise that Gaza will not present a danger to Israel".

Memorial Events Across Israel

The national leadership postponed formal commemorations until 16 October - after the end of the religious holiday season - but gatherings still were held throughout the country on that day.

A remembrance service for the families of Israeli citizens killed in the Hamas incident was held in the coastal city. Put together by the affected families, it was broadcast throughout Israeli television channels.

Hours earlier, a moment of silence was observed across the country.

Peace Discussions in Egypt

Meanwhile, Israeli and Hamas delegations met in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of the negotiation venue for a second day of third-party negotiations to review the provisions of the proposal.

A high-ranking representative knowledgeable about the discussions indicated that an late session of mediated discussions commenced at 7 PM local time.

The source said the morning session ended without concrete outcomes, because of conflicting views over the recommended Israeli retreat arrangements from Gaza and over guarantees Hamas seeks to ensure Israel does not resume combat after the initial stage of the arrangement.

He commented that the talks are "tough and have yet to produce any real breakthrough," but pointed out that mediators are striving to close the gaps between the both parties.

Critical Points in Discussions

  • A lasting halt to fighting
  • The exchange of the captives still kept by Hamas for detainees from Gaza
  • The pullout of Israeli forces from Gaza
  • Plans for humanitarian aid distribution
  • Post-war governance of the region

Public Feeling

In Tel Aviv's public square that day, young a woman - whose family member endured the assault on the Nova music festival, where hundreds were lost their lives and numerous more were captured by Hamas gunmen - told: "Nowhere seems like home any longer and until all the hostages are released none of us will have peace of mind."

"After we see everyone home once more, we can relax again. Then we can begin to heal," she concluded.

Near the prime minister's home in the capital, people congregated to express their backing for the loved ones of the hostages. Israel reports forty-eight remain in captivity in Gaza, 20 of whom are thought to be alive.

Activist a participant explained: "We must do any agreement necessary for the hostages to come back home. But we sincerely need assurances that we will be protected."

Opinion polls now consistently show that around the majority of the population prefer the hostilities to end in exchange for the liberation of the captives.

Gaza Circumstances

At the site of the music event, mourners came together to pay their respects.

From there, the sound of military attacks and shelling could be detected just a brief space away in Gaza, where witnesses reported the heavy Israeli attacks persisted.

In the main city, air and artillery strikes were documented in the morning of that day in the western Tal al-Hawa, sector and locality districts and in the east side neighbourhood of the community, as well Shati refugee camp to the northwest.

"Once the evening falls, the fear appears with it," displaced urban resident a local woman, whose young son was lost his life by an Israeli bombing earlier, described.

"We are terrified of the bombings. All the night we are resting together, holding each other, notably my little child who rests his face on me the entire evening."

"Continuously we check the news to see what happened. And I'm concerned that this halt will not be achieved and that the conflict will come back to us."

Medical Crisis

The medical facility in the urban area announced it had received the remains of six people by the daytime, including three killed in an Israeli bombing in the southern district.

Another medical facility in the southern city of that area indicated another two dead people had been delivered. An individual was died by Israeli forces while attempting to get aid to the south, health workers stated.

The territory's health ministry announced 25 of the {territ
