A senior Russian general has been killed following an detonation in Moscow, according to reports from authorities.

The attack occurred on Monday morning when an explosive device concealed beneath a vehicle exploded, leading to the death of Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov.

Sarvarov served as the head of the armed forces' operational training department.

The committee stated that one line of inquiry involves the alleged involvement of Ukrainian intelligence services. To date, Ukraine has remained silent.

Officials have been sent to the site, which is said to be in a southern district of the city.

Accounts indicate the blast took place in a car park close to a residential building.
